General Notes: Husband - Andrew F. Eakin
He obtained a good common school education in the home neighborhood. He had various business interests besides looking after the part of the old farm which he owned. He acquired different oil holdings and operated in local territory, and had a share in some Butler County wells, being part owner of the Sadie Oil Company, which had fifteen producers. About 1890 he and his brother James N. Eakin opened a general store at Eakins Corners which they conducted under the firm name of Eakin Brothers, James N. taking charge of the establishment, in which he was interested for some twenty years. His share was eventually purchased by A. F. Eakin. Mr. Eakin is one of the best known merchants in his part of the county, having been postmaster at Eakins Corners for twenty years, until the office was discontinued for rural free delivery service. The town is six miles west of the borough of Emlenton, in Scrubgrass Township, and Mr. Eakin ranked high among its most estimable citizens. [HVC 1919, 911]
