General Notes: Husband - Daniel T. Marsh
Being the oldest son, he remained at home after his father's death and took care of the family, managing the home farm. In 1870 he left the homestead and settled on a small farm of his own near Cowansburg, Pennsylvania, where he remained some ten years. In 1880 he engaged in the general merchandise business in Cowansburg and for over twenty-five years was identified with the commerce of the place, of which he served several years as postmaster. Mr. Marsh was one of those who, during the trying days of the Civil war, rallied to the defense of the Union. In 1864 he enlisted in Company H, "Knap's Battery," Light Artillery, and was subsequently transferred to Company E, Fifth Regiment, Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, serving eleven months. He held the township offices of auditor, collector and assessor, and for over a decade was a member of the school board. In 1901 he was a candidate for the office of county treasurer, but failed to receive the nomination. He was a member of J. W. Greenawalt Post, No. 399, G. A. R., of Cowansburg, Westmoreland Lodge, No. 518, F. and A. M., of Greensburg, and Cowansburg Council, No. 165, J. O. U. A. M. In politics he was a Republican.
