General Notes: Husband - Washington Gibb

He was reared to manhood in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, attending the public schools and there acquiring, as well as through solitary reading, a modest education. In his youth he cultivated a small garden plot, realizing a generous profit therefrom, and this was his vocation, with several interruptions, all of his life. For several years he was employed on the coal boats navigating the Ohio river, later becoming a pilot, and afterward came to Allegheny County. At Sewickley he became a gardener, acquiring title to twelve acres of rich fertile land, shipping most of his produce to the dealers in Allegheny. After his retirement from active participation in the management of the business, it was continued by his sons, David W. and Walter Platt.
He held membership in the Presbyterian Church.
