He came with his parents to Venango County, Pennsylvania, and afterward to Franklin. He received his primary education in the public schools, and graduated at Westminister College, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, in 1867. Soon after graduating he commenced reading law with Taylor & Mackey, of Franklin, and was admitted to the bar in June, 1869. He was later admitted to practice in the courts of adjoining counties, in the supreme court and in the United States courts, and was equally successful in civil and criminal law. The family was Presbyterian in faith, and in politics Mr. Dunn was a stanch Democrat. He was a member of the Masonic order, the I. O. O. F., and the A. O. U. W.; he was one of the well-known members of the Venango bar, and had a good practice.
