He was educated in the public schools, and upon the completion of his education obtained a position in the same mill in which his father was working, and remained there sixteen years. He then entered the employ of the Carnegie Steel Company, at Homestead, Pennsylvania, becoming head clerk in the shipping department, and held this position until very shortly before his death. His residence, however, was at Carrick. He was an active worker in the interests of the Republican party, and was president of the board of health of Carrick at the time of his death. In 1901 he had built a fine house at No. 1035 Brownsville road, Carrick, and in this he was living when his death occurred. He was a member of the Protected Home Circle and of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, and he and his wife were members of the Presbyterian Church.
