General Notes: Husband - Joseph Clarence Shrader

Greensburg, Westmoreland Co, PA

He was born on his grandfather's farm in South Huntingdon township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. When two years of age his father moved to a farm near New Stanton, Pennsylvania, the old homestead farm of Simon Long, his maternal grandfather, and there the lad spent his childhood. He attended school at the old schoolhouse at Stanton, and after completing his studies there began a business career. After filling a number of minor positions in various places, he was employed as payroll clerk at Bovard by the Keystone Coal & Coke Company of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where he remained two years, when he accepted another position. Mr. Shrader began in May, 1915, as stenographer, bookkeeper, and secretary of the Howard Gas Coal Company, which was one of the progressive coal companies of the region.
He and his wife attended the Second Reformed Church of Greensburg.
He was a staunch Republican and cast his first vote for William H. Taft. He was a member of William Lodge, No. 431, Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; Urania Chapter, No. 192, Royal Arch Masons, of Greensburg; and Olivet Council, No. 13, Royal and Select Masters, of Greensburg. He and his wife were members of Jeannette Chapter, No. 69, Order of the Eastern Star.
