General Notes: Husband - Levi Oliver Purvis
He and his brother, Joseph L. Purvis, succeeded their father in the management of the planing mill and lumber business, which they conducted successfully and on a large scale.
He was educated in the public schools and at Witherspoon Institute. After learning the carpenter's trade he worked at it as a journeyman until 1876, at which time he became a member of the firm of S. G. Purvis & Company, with which he was connected for many years. Then, with his son, Harold G., he established the firm of Levi O. Purvis & Company, manufacturers of and dealers in sash, doors, blinds and general wood-work, having a plant at No. 100 S. Franklin Street, Butler. He was a Democrat politically, and performed useful service on the School Board for twelve years. He belonged to Butler Lodge, F. & A. M., and also to the Ancient Order of United Workmen.
