General Notes: Husband - John Duffield
He was born in the eastern part of Pennsylvania in 1782. He came to Venango county in the winter of 1800 with an ox team and sled; his sister and a family by the name of Davis came with him. They camped out several nights. The Journey continued several weeks. They located on the banks of French creek, two miles below where Utica would later be located. He served in the war of 1812. After his marriage, they settled in Frenchcreek township, where he followed farming as his vocation. [HVC 1879, 556]
Date of death June 18. [HVC 1879, 457]
He settled on a 400-acre farm in Canal township, Venango County, PA, nearly opposite the old homestead, where he resided until his death. Physically, he was a man of commanding presence, being over six feet in height, of large frame, and dignified in appearance. He possessed the qualities of a good citizen and enjoyed general respect. [Duffield Family, 65]
His tombstone give date of death as June 18, but other sources say June 20.
