General Notes: Husband - John McQuaid
He was born in Ireland, in 1762, and brought by his parents to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, when a youth. He remained there until he was thirty-five years old, when he came to Venango County, and followed ferrying about nine years. He was a mill-wright by trade. [HVC 1879, 649]
He was born in Perry County, Pennsylvania. [HVC 1890, 1042]
He was born, it is thought, in Ireland, and came to America with his parents when quite young, spending his early life in eastern Pennsylvania. Coming thence to Venango County, he settled about 1802 in what is now Sugarcreek Township, near Utica, and there made a permanent home, remaining on his farm until his death. For about nine years he was engaged as a ferryman, and he also followed his trade of millwright in connection with farming, having a tract of two hundred acres. During the War of 1812 he did military duty, taking part in the defense of Erie. [HVC 1919, 876]
He and his wife had thirteen children, six of whom grew to adulthood.
