General Notes: Husband - John Hayes

Kishacoquillas Valley, Mifflin Co, PA

He remained at home until twenty years of age, meanwhile enjoying such instruction as was imparted at the common schools. Being desirous to become master of a trade, he chose that of a plasterer, first pursuing his craft at home and afterward for two years in Centre County.
In 1824, he made Mifflin County his home, and having already established a reputation for skill in his trade, found his services much in demand. After a period of nearly thirty years thus industriously spent, he purchased a farm and resided thereon, and, aided by the labor of his sons, cultivated and greatly improved it. This land, together with an adjoining farm, were later worked by his sons James and Josiah.
A Democrat in politics, he was frequently tendered, but invariably declined office, though often importuned to become a candidate for important posts. He was educated in the faith of the Protestant Episcopal Church, though a contributor to all Christian denominations.
