General Notes: Husband - Jonathan Dean
He was reared principally by his aunt, Leah (Dean) Wentz. He began for himself on a farm. Early in 1861, at the age of seventeen he succeeded in enlisting in Company F, Eighty-third Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served about three years. He was with the Army of the Potomac. At the time of the battle of Gettysburg he was confined in a hospital. On his return from the war he resumed farming, and in 1884 he was elected recorder of Mercer County by the Republicans. He and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in the Sabbath-school of which he was a teacher. [HMC 1888, 659]
