He devoted himself to an agricultural life ever since he reached manhood. On March 1, 1884, he settled on a farm where he then carried on general farming. This farm, of fifty acres, was situated in North Beaver Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, on the old Cleveland mill road two and one-half miles southwest of Mahoningtown.
He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian Church at Mahoningtown.
