General Notes: Husband - George Hamilton

---

He was reared on a farm which later became a part of the Gettysburg battlefield. He was of English and German extraction and served in the War of 1812. In 1827 [another soure: 1830] he moved with his family to Washington County, Pennsylvania, and was engaged in milling and blacksmithing there until 1837, when he settled in Plaingrove Township, Lawrence County. For fourteen years he leased a farm there and then bought one of seventy acres, which he partly cleared and improved. He was the father of twelve children, seven sons and five daughters, the youngest being born after the family came to Lawrence County.
He and his wife were leading members of the United Presbyterian Church.

Of their seven sons and five daughters, all were living in 1893 but one-the eldest.
