Winston G. Donaldson
Winston G. Donaldson, 74, of Nickleville, retired owner of Donaldson Potato Farm, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 1993, in the West Unit of the Franklin Campus, Northwest Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Born Jan. 29, 1919, on a farm at Nickleville, he was a son of Austin and Ruth Sheffer Donaldson.
The farm was first settled by John Donaldson in 1822 and Winston Donaldson was the fifth generation to own and till the land. Potatoes were the principal crop grown there for nearly 100 years.
Mr. Donaldson graduated in 1936 from Emlenton High School and in 1941 from the Pennsylvania State University. Following his graduation from college, where he earned a bachelor's degree in agronomy, Mr. Donaldson returned home and joined his father in operat-ing the potato farm.
Mr. Donaldson was for many years a director of the Venango County Conservation District, the Pennsylvania Cooperative Potato Growers and the Cen-tral Electric Cooperative. He also served as a Richland Township auditor.
He joined the Nickleville Presbyterian Church in 1932 and had served as an elder there since 1949.
Mr. Donaldson was married June 24, 1944, to the former Ruby Pryor of Maple Shade. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, Terrance Donaldson of Lenoir City, Tenn.; two daughters, Mrs. David, (Sheila) Shenk and Holly Donaldson, both of Le-banon; a brother, Paul Donald-son of Hallsville, Texas; four grandchildren; a great-grand-daughter; five nephews and two nieces.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Morrison Funeral Home, Oil City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The Rev. R. Todd Custer, pastor of the Nickleville Presbyterian Church, and the Rev, Roger A. Peterson Jr., pastor of Seneca United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Nickle-ville Cemetery.
The family suggests that me-morials be made to the Ameri-can Cancer Society.
