He was educated in the public schools of his native township, and, like his father, was identified with farming all his life. He made many improvements on the homestead, among them being the erection of a brick dwelling house in 1910. He and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian church, and he served as treasurer of the church and Sunday school. In political matters he was a Prohibitionist.
