General Notes: Husband - Thomas B. Dilley

He attended district school until he was eighteen years of age, in the meantime having commenced to learn the blacksmith's trade with his brother-in-law. Having thoroughly mastered it at the age of twenty, he followed it independently at Sheakleyville, PA, for about one year, after which for three years he was in partnership with his former employer. In June, 1856, he purchased land near Sheakleyville, from which he cleared a farm and remained there and made various improvements until 1875. In the latter year he bought the land which he then transformed by many years of industry at the forge in the field into the fine piece of agricultural property known as “Pleasant View.” It was situated on the line of Crawford County, occupied a commanding and picturesque site and had a commodious residence and one of the largest and most modern barns in northern Mercer County.
In his younger days he was an active Republican, he later retired from that field and devoted himself to the general superintendency of his large interests and the promotion of the Presbyterian Church, in which he was an elder for many years. [HMC 1909, 1036]
