He came to Pennsylvania with his wife and daughter Jane, about 1741.
He and his wife were early settlers in Lurgan township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

The Dickson family, and also the Greenlee family, came to America with the Maclay family in 1734. The Dicksons and Greenlees, after living some years in Lurgan township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, moved to North Carolina.
