General Notes: Husband - John W. Dickey

He received a common school education, but his father being of poor health, he was required to do the work of the farm. In August, 1862, he enlisted in Company F, One Hundred and Thirty-seventh Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served nine months. He was at the battles of Antietam, South Mountain, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville. His term of service having expired he returned to his home and resumed the duties on the farm. At his father's death he and his brother David purchased the old homestead. He was one of the leading Republicans of his township, and served more than fourteen years as school director. He was a leading member of Slippery Rock United Presbyterian church, and filled the offices of elder, treasurer, clerk of the session, and superintendent of the Sabbath school for many years. He was one of the original stockholders of the State Normal School, and also a stockholder in the Centreville Creamery Company.
