He was a bookkeeper at Galena Signol Oil Company and later a merchant and a co-owner of the Franklin General Equipment Company for forty-four years. He was a Republican, belonged to the First Baptist Church and was a 33rd degree masson, Past Exalted Rural of Franklin Lodge of Elks, a member of the Zem Zem Temple of the Shriners.
