General Notes: Husband - Rev. Archibald Alexander, D.D.

He became the father of the Princeton Alexander family, and the first Professor of Theology in Princeton Seminary. He was licensed to preach in 1791 and was for a few years pastor of two churches in his native region, then President of Hampden Sydney College, Virginia, until 1806.
In that year he became pastor of the Old Pine Street Presbyterian church in Philadelphia. From this he was called by the General Assembly in 1812 to become the founder and first Professor in Princeton Seminary. The next year Dr. Miller was associated with him, next Dr. Hodge, and finally, Dr. Joseph Addison Alexander, his son, forming a faculty of the most distinguished scholars and Theological Professors that have appeared in the Presbyterian Church of America.
Dr. Archibald Alexander died and was buried at Princeton, leaving a family of six sons and one daughter.
