General Notes: Husband - William Franklyn Stevens


Obtaining his preparatory education in the country schools, he matriculated at the Ohio Northern University, at Ada, Ohio, and was graduated in the class of 1887, with the degree of Bachelor of Science. Later this university conferred upon him the Master's degree in Science, and Taylor University honored him with a Doctor of Philosophy. For a time he was principal of the schools at Mentor, Ohio, then became librarian of the Railroad Branch of the Young Men's Christian Association of New York City, an institution sustained by Cornelius Vanderbilt. For eleven years he remained in this position, in 1901 coming to Homestead, Pennsylvania, as librarian of the Carnegie Library, one of Andrew Carnegie's many community gifts of this nature. Mr. Stevens was a member of the Keystone State Library Association, and the American Library Association, and had numerous social and civic interests in the district. He was a Republican in political faith, and served the borough of Munhall as a member of the School Board. He fraternized with the Masonic Order and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, also the Homestead Fraternity Club, and he was a member of the Ohio Northern University Alumni Association and a charter member of the Outlook Club, of Homestead (1901); he was a communicant and an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Homestead.

She was graduated from the Ohio Wesleyan University in the class of 1887 and received the degree of Bachelor of Literature. She was a member of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, No. 53,961.
