He was nearly killed when a boy by a kick from a horse; but he made a brilliant record as a student, and became a successful physician in Tacony, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. After completing the course offered in the Oakland school near his father's home, he entered the academy at Lewisburg in 1879, and later took a course in Bucknell University, at Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, graduating in June, 1886. In October following he entered the University of Pennsylvania, and in 1889 was graduated with the degrees of A. M. and M. D. He then engaged in practice at Tacony.
