This family was founded in America by his father, a native of England, who located on the present site of Baltimore, Maryland, but at the opening of the Revolutionary war returned to his native land.

He and his wife lived in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, before settling as pioneers in Harlansburg, Pennsylvania.
