He was elected to the Pennsylvania Legislature from Indiana County for the years 1846-47, and in 1852 moved to Franklin County, Pennsylvania, where he engaged extensively in real estate dealing and farming, becoming wealthy. He lived in retirement for fifteen or twenty years before his death.
