He was educated in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and at Clinton, Pennsylvania. In 1871 he began the study of medicine under Dr. R. S. Kennedy, who was then located at New Scottsville. Three years later he entered the Medical School at Cleveland, Ohio, and was graduated in 1876. He engaged in practice in Hopewell township, Beaver County, and resided on a part of the old Veazey homestead. In political preference he was a Republican.
