General Notes: Husband - Samuel Davis

He was a farmer by occupation, and also kept hotel for many years. The Middletown road, which was laid out by the Government in 1814, was the chief thoroughfare in use for the conveyance of military supplies between Fort Redstone and Wellsburg during the war of that period, and this hotel was the only one between Washington and Middletown. [CBRWC, 129]

He kept a tavern for many years, dealt largely in stock and was a leader in all public enterprises. In politics he was first a Whig, and on the organization of the Republican party became one of their most active workers.
