General Notes: Husband - Robert Seaton

He came, accompanied by his wife and three children, from Huntingdon County, PA, in 1800, and settled in Marion township, Butler County. The family traveled in a wagon hauled by a yoke of oxen. He was a millwright by trade, and built a number of mills in the western part of the state. Previous to his settlement in Butler County, he had erected the grist mill on Wolf Creek, in Mercer County, known as Cunningham’s Mill. About 1815, he erected, on one of the sources of Slippery Rock Creek, a fulling mill, which was in operation many years. [HBC 1883, 432]

He was born in Huntingdon county, Pennsylvania, of Irish parentage, and came to Butler county in 1800. He settled in what is now Marion township, and at once set to work and erected a log cabin, in which his daughter, Eliza, was born the fourth day after the family arrived at their destination. He was a millwright, and built nearly all the mills in that section of the country in his day, furnishing the lumber for the same, in payment of which he received a certain share of the profits of each mill for seven years. About 1815 he built a fulling mill on the South Branch of Slippery Rock creek, and subsequently a tannery. These he carried on until his death.
