General Notes: Husband - John Whitman
He was the eldest of his siblings, settling in Sugar Creek Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, on a tract of one hundred acres later known as the McLaughlin farm. He was a boatman, and when the naval stores for the equipment of Perry's fleet were transported up French creek he assisted in that work. His brothers are thought to also have been boatmen.
He came to Sugarcreek township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, as early as 1797 from eastern Penn-sylvania, and was never more than three days out of the state.
