General Notes: Husband - Hon. William Davidson

The founder of this branch of the Davidson family came to America about 1695 from the north of Ireland and settled near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He had been a resident of Londonderry, Ireland, during the memorable siege.

He was a surveyor. He settled in Connellsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, in 1808. He was also a farmer and had interests in the iron industry. His first important position was that of manager of the Laurel Furnace, and later he became iron-master at Breakneck.
He was a soldier in the War of 1812, and taken prisoner at Detroit, Michigan.
He possessed remarkable traits of character. He read the Bible through twice before he was nine years old.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1814-17 and served as Speaker of that body. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate, 1818-21.

He was a very prominent man of his day, both in religious and political circles. He was a clergyman of the Christian church and a very active worker in that denomination.

He was born near Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he was clerk in the Prothonotary's office when a young man. In 1807, in company with John B. Gibson, the noted jurist, he left Carlisle and settled in Fayette County, where he bought large tracts of land and became later in life interested in the iron industry. He was at Detroit when Hull surrendered in 1812, where he was taken prisoner, but afterwards exchanged. He served several times in the Legislature, was Speaker of the House in 1818, and was later sent to the State Senate.
