Soon after marriage he and his wife emigrated to America, landing first at New York.
Thence they proceeded to Washington County, Pennsylvania, where they settled in Mt. Pleasant township, and began work on a farm. Together they toiled, sharing their burdens and blessings until they were both deceased.

He was first a Whig, and after the party was organized, became a Republican. He was connected with church and school work for many years.
