General Notes: Husband - Dr. Boyd Williams Ghering

He was educated in the public schools of Mercer and Edinboro, Pennsylvania, the high school in Glade Township and Warren Borough and at Edinboro State Teachers' College, from which he was graduated in 1915. For two years he taught school at Grand Valley and Clarendon and during two summers was an instructor at Edinboro State Teachers' College. Meanwhile, he decided to adopt the profession of medicine and accordingly entered the University of Pittsburgh, where he took the degree of Bachelor of Science in 1922 and subsequently continued his work in the Medical School of the same institution, graduating with the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1924. During the following year he was an interne at Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania, after which he came to Edinboro, where his brother, Dr. Harold Alfred Ghering, had practiced for some years. In August, 1925, they jointly organized the Edinboro Hospital and Clinic. Dr. Ghering specialized in surgery, but never strictly limited his practice. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania State Medical Society and the Erie County Medical Society. At Edinboro he was a director of the Edinboro National Bank. Dr. Ghering also took an active part in the general life of the community and became president of the Edinboro Community Club. He was past president and a director of the Edinboro Fair Association, a trustee of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the local lodges of the Free and Accepted Masons. In addition to these connections he was affiliated with the Phi Sigma Rho medical fraternity.
During the World War, Dr. Ghering served as a corporal in the United States Army Medical Corps, being stationed at Camp Lee, Virginia. He was a Republican in politics and found his principal recreation in his 214-acre farm, known in the Edinboro locality as the Darrow Farm, on which he raised mostly chickens and dairy cows.
