General Notes: Husband - Thomas McCoy

The progenitors of the McCoy family in Pennsylvania were Thomas and Catherine McCoy, natives of [Harper's Ferry?] Virginia, who emigrated from that state to Mercer County, Pennsylvania, some time previous to the year 1800 [1796]; he was a farmer and a man of ability and influence. [HBC1883, 429]

He settled in Wolf Creek township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, in 1796 or 1797, removing thither from Harper's Ferry, Virginia. He had six sons that settled in the neighborhood.

He was a native of Berkeley County, West Virginia, who was born in 1754, and after reaching manhood cleared and improved 600 acres of wild land in Pine township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, where he made his home for many years.
