He was educated in the public schools, and Bucknell College; until 1905 he was a prominent oil operator and lumberman of Forest, Venango and Warren counties. In 1905 he moved to California, where he engaged in the real estate business at Oakland and San Francisco. He was burgess and councilman of Tionesta, Pennsylvania, several years.
