General Notes: Husband - John Fletcher "Fletch" Alcorn

He enlisted in the Union Army Sept. 8, 1862 in company D, 18th P. V. C., and served under Gens. Kilpatrick and Custer. Discharged on Mar. 14, 1864 with rank of Corporal (or Orderly Sergeant?) because of bad health: TB. He entered the army with his cousin, John Wesley Alcorn, who died while a POW in Andersonville Prison in Georgia.

He and his wife had several children. His farm was in the Breedtown, Venango County, Pennsylvania, area; it was the Amos S. Hancox farm which he and his brother Jonathan M. Alcorn, purchased from the Hancox heirs. "Fletch" had a brand new house built on the property. He was a prosperous farmer.

He had a sale and sold his farm but took sick before moving to Iowa where his brother, Winans, had gone to scout out land for homsteading. The family did move out of state after the father's death and lived in Warren, Ohio; Buffalo, New York; New Castle, Pennsylvania; Youngstown, Ohio; and then Atlanta, Georgia.
