He was a merchant, as were his forefathers for several generations, and throughout his active career was engaged in the lumber business.


General Notes: Wife - Mary Maclay


She had in her possession several relics of the Pilgrim ancestor, Peter Brown, among them the glasses he used when reading his Bible. She also had a very interesting journal kept by her great-grandfather, Samuel Maclay, while surveying the West Branch of the Susquehanna, the Sinnamahoning and the Allegheny rivers.
