He passed his boyhood and youth in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and there commenced the study of dentistry. In the spring of 1885 he came to Washington, Washington County, and having just graduated from Pennsylvania Dental College, in Philadelphia, he opened out for the practice of his profession.
He and his wife were members of the First Presbyterian Church; in politics he was a Republican.
