His occupation was that of weaving fine linens and carpets. He spent most of his life in the town of Mifflinburg, Union County, Pennsylvania.

He was one of those versatile men who find their work in various lines of effort crowned with equal success. His list of occupations is varied, including the weaving of a fine grade of linen and carpets, then for a time he followed butchering in Milton, Pennsylvania, later returning to his native city.
