After the death of her husband, she continued living in England, where she had resided the greater part of her married life. In 1889 her family still living consisted of five daughters and one son.

After he decease she was long held in loving recollection by Pittsburghers for her many gifts of parks and other benefactions, amounting in all to ten millions of dollars.
