He educated at Clarion State Normal and Lafayette College, class of 1884; studied law in offices of Wilson, Jenks & Reed until their dissolution in 1885; was ad­mitted to the bar and practiced law most suc­cessfully until 1902, when he was elected president judge for a term of ten years end­ing January 1, 1912.
