He was educated in the public schools and at Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, Pennsylvania. He then took up the study of medicine and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in the year of 1895. Shortly after his graduation he located in Brushton, Thirty-seventh ward, Pittsburgh, where he then engaged in the general practice of medicine.
