General Notes: Husband - James Marshall Slagle

He was born in Washington, Pennsylvania. In 1840 he went to Iowa, locating at Bentonsport, on the Des Moines River, where he was a merchant. In 1842 he removed to Jefferson County and lived on a farm for seven years. In 1849 he went to the Calfornia gold fields, but he only stayed there two years, when he returned in 1851 to Fairfield, Iowa, where he remained the rest of his life. He was for a time treasurer of the Agricultural Society and was president of the Library Association.
