He was raised on a farm, and was educated in the common schools. Leaving the school, he engaged in farming as his occupation. He was a democrat in politics, and served as assessor of North Union township. He was a member of the Presbyterian church at Laurel Hill, to which his wife also belonged. He and his brother owned a valuable farm in North Union township, where he resided.
