General Notes: Husband - [Ancestor] Craig

There is a legend that this ancient Scottish family derived its name from an ancestor who, in the remote past, discovered on the battlefield that by striking an enemy between the helmet and armor (or on the craig or neck), he could bring off a head at each stroke, and called to his followers, "The craigs, boys, the craigs", thus gaining for himself the patronymic of Craig.
The Craigs, distinguished for centuries in the annals of Scotland, also played an honorable part in the Colonial, Revolutionary and National history of the United States.

It is a tradition that the ancestors of this family fled from religious persecution in Scotland to the North of Ireland, but, finding conditions little better there, came to the American Colonies.
