General Notes: Husband - John Cowan

He was born and bred in Scotland, and there married Mary Cowan, who, although bearing the same surname, was not of the same family. Emigrating from his native land in 1851, he came with his wife and six children to Pennsylvania, locating at first on the west side of Sharon, where for a number of years he followed his trade of a miner, working in the coal mines. In 1860 he bought land just east of Sharon, and from that time until his death, at the age of fifty-six years, was engaged in farming. They were the parents of thirteen children, six of whom were born in Scotland and seven in America.
