He received his education in the public and high schools of Butler, Pennsylvania. He made a connection with a bank of Vandergrift, where he was employed as a clerk for a year. In 1903, at the age of twenty-two years, he entered the lumber business in association with his brother, the firm being called the Cornelius Lumber Company, and with the exception of a short period Mr. Cornelius continued in this business for over twenty years.
