He came from Maryland to Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, about the beginning of the ninteenth century. He was descended from Richard Greenland of England.

He was born in Baltimore County, Maryland, in the latter part of the eighteenth century. He accompanied his father and the remainder of the family on their removal to the Trough Creek valley, Pennsylvania, and there married.
