He was carefully trained for life's battle by his talented father; was educated in the public schools of Clarion; Hill's School at Pottstown; Ann Arbor (Michigan) High School, whence he was graduated class of 1881, and the University of Michigan, whence he was graduated. Ph. B., class of 1885. Returning to Clarion, he pursued a course of legal study under his father's able and painstaking preceptorship. He grasped legal problems surely and rapidly, passing his examination and being admitted to the Clarion County bar in 1887. He then spent two years in the state of Washington, first associating with Thomas Burk, a prominent lawyer of Seattle, later becoming city editor of Seattle Evening Press, a paper since merged with the Evening Times.
In 1889 he returned to Clarion and was admitted to a law partnership with his father, an association that existed until the death of the latter in 1895. Soon afterward he formed a partnership with Harry E. Rugh, and as Corbett & Rugh the firm has established a strong claim upon public favor. Mr. Corbett maintains the high ideals of his sire; he is a learned conscientious lawyer, a powerful advocate, and admittedly one of the leading trial lawyers at the Clarion bar. The firm business is very large, each partner excelling in his special department. They are attorneys for the Pennsylvania railroad and other corporations of Clarion County, but their practice, general in character, is derived largely from private clients, estates, etc.
Mr. Corbett is a member of the County and State Bar Associations; is a Democrat in politics, and served one term as district attorney of Clarion County. His college fraternity is Chi Psi, and both he and his wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal church. His genial pleasant personality renders him popular with his acquaintances, and he surely has not reached the zenith of his career.
