General Notes: Husband - Thomas S. Lackey

He was educated in the public school, and grew to manhood on the home farm. He began teaching in the ungraded schools in 1876, and during the summer months attended the State Normal Summer School at California, Pennsylvania. After several years in the ungraded schools, and after completing his normal course, he began teaching in the graded school at Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania. He then became principal of the First Ward School of Allegheny City, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, remaining ten years. In 1893, having decided upon the profession of law, and completed some preparatory work, he entered the law department of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, whence he was graduated LL.B., class of 1895. He at once began the practice of his profession in Denver, Colorado, remaining one year, then returned east and located at Uniontown, Pennsylvania, in October, 1896, and began practice there, being admitted to all the state and federal courts. He operated successfully in coal and coke properties and was interested in the development of coal and coke bearing lands in both Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He also had large financial interests; was president of the People's Bank and a director of the Citizens' Title & Trust Company, both successful, prosperous institutions.
He was a Democrat in politics; was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church and a worker in the Sunday school.
