He was graduated at Washington College in 1854, and at the Western Theological Seminary in 1857. He was pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Johnston, 1858-67; of the Westminster Church, Philadelphia, 1868-70; of the North Church, Philadelphia, 1870-82; and of East Liberty Church, Pittsburgh, 1882.
