He and his wife settled in Rockdale Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, on the Erie County line, in 1801.

He was born in Massachusetts, and settled near Waterford, Erie County, Pennsylvania, at an early date, and was engaged in farming until his death. He was an active participant in the war of 1812.
